Truly for the Tush...

September 15, 2010
What would your tush consider "Truly Scrumptious?" To be able to sit in style! lol Hench..my creation du jour.

I found this bench in an old antique shop and boy was in need of some help! Almost every single spindle had to be re-glued and that included cleaning out the old glue with my Dremel. Then I had to put it all back together and brace it so that it remained straight. Here's the RICKETY before:

Obviously it had been painted black which isn't really a problem except that it was a beat up finish. And besides, I envisioned this sweet bench in something more demure. AND it gave me a chance to try out my new "NO VCO" paint! So it received a base coat of teal and a lime wash. I hand painted a folk wreath on the back,

lightly sanded some high points. And here she is..ready for a new home!

Oo-la-la Victorian Vanity

September 14, 2010
The race against time continues! I've all but completed the Victorian Vanity. I've been using a new paint which I am experimenting with and this piece is the first. The base color is a yellow-based cream with a lime wash.

Certain areas of the drawers were painted with what I call "Donna Dewberry Sprays" since Donna is the one to come up with these easy-to-paint florals. The florals embellish the lower drawer fronts, the center focal and the mirror top which all contain the same yellow-based c...

My first French Blue..

September 10, 2010
There's no sense in lying about the fact that I was scared POO-LESS when I cracked open the can of paint I brought home. I picked out a French Blue color to paint my next piece. And I admit that I used this piece as an experiment because I was too scared to paint the Bombe Chest I have waiting with this color. But you know, I should have known better. I should have had faith in what I've learned in life which is that being daring and being brave - more often pay off than not.

BEFORE

I started ...

Tick Tock..I painted a Clock..

September 8, 2010
I've said previously that I have a garage FULL of stuff that has to be painted. The clock is ticking and time is NOT on my side. The weather is turning quickly which aids me in the speed at which my paint cures. But if these pieces remain in my garage, then I'll have nowhere to put the car so a.) either I quit driving or b.) I get my butt movin! To make matter worse, I've signed on as a vendor at the North Grafton "Ladies Night Out" which an evening of stress free pre-holiday shopping which i...

Finally a break..

September 5, 2010
So I'm not a complainer by nature but honestly, I have found the humidity the past 2 weeks to have really tested me to the max. There is nothing worse (literally) than waiting for paint to dry and it's a well known fact that paint does NOT dry when it's humid. And it didn't. I've had an assembly line in my garage for a month now and I'm a woman on a schedule. So nothing is worse for a person like me to be at the mercy of Mother Nature. Patience has never been my long suit.
So you can imagine ...

Brimfield Antique Show - Sept 7-12

September 1, 2010
I have the GREAT fortune to live just a few minutes from Brimfield, MA.

Brimfield is a sleepy little town with a series of open fields dotting the main drag and absolutely nothing to do. Until they crank up the Antique Show.

Three times every year, in May, July and September, all those open fields become individual antique markets (that's the uppity version of a flea market). Then people from ALL OVER THE WORLD descend upon this nowhere place and turn it into a shark tank for "vintage". This ...

Shabby Boundaries

August 30, 2010
I just haven't had time to do the 2nd Shabby Tutorial. I'm quickly becoming overwhelmed. I've assembly lined the garage with pieces of furniture I'm painting and time is NOT on my side. I have approximately 45 days before the temperature starts to really plummet so painting furniture will cease since I do not have a HEATED workshop! (I'm privately hoping that means my winter will be filled with watercolor paintings and china mosaics) So I'm really feeling an internal angst about the amount of...

How To Shabby series - Tutorial 1

August 27, 2010
I hear ALL the time that someone has a piece of furniture they want to paint. It's Grama's old piece, or they picked up at a yard sale, etc. It seems to be quite common. What is also common is the fact that no one ever tells me that they finished a piece. Apparently, all these old, neglected pieces of furniture sit around in the garage or attic on an imaginary "To Do" list that never gets done. Given the conversations I seem to have about these pieces, the trend I see is that they sit there b...

HOW to PACK and SHIP large FURNITURE or OVERSIZED items

August 22, 2010

This is probably the most daunting problem to solve as a seller of large items or furniture. When an item you sold will not fit in a standard or even over sized box, what do you do? Well first, DO NOT GIVE UP. The ability to ship is the single biggest asset to an online seller. Shipping your larger items will literally make the difference in whether your item sells or not.

SUPPLIES

Corrugated Sheets (I buy bundles from ULINE..click here).

Polypropylene Strapping (I bought a kit from...
